Elaine Lewis Lester

Elaine Lewis Lester, 80, passed away on February 27, 2026. Born in Moultrie, Georgia, she lived most of her life in Savannah, where she devoted herself to her family, her students, and her community.

Elaine was a graduate of Georgia Southern University and spent many years teaching in both Moultrie at Moultrie High School and Savannah at Jenkins High School and Largo-Tibet Elementary School. She loved the children she taught and remained deeply committed to education throughout her life. Her former students will remember her as a patient and steady presence who cared deeply about their growth and success.

Beyond the classroom, Elaine gave generously of her time. She was active for many years in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts, serving in a variety of leadership roles and receiving numerous awards for her dedication. She was also a devoted member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Bonaventure Chapter, where she served as Regent and held multiple state-level positions. She chaired the Wreaths Across America program at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville for many years, a role she approached with great care and respect. In addition, she supported the Children of the American Revolution and encouraged young people in their understanding of history and service.

Above all, Elaine was a selfless and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Paul Lester; her sons, Timothy (Nancy), Jonathan (Angie), Matthew (Teresa), Stephen (Rebecca), and her daughter, Amy (Michael); 14 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews; her sister, Helen Whitney of Vinings, Georgia; and her brother, Robert Lewis of New Elm, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” Lewis and Loretta Jordan Lewis of New Elm, Georgia, and her sister Robbie Green.

A funeral service will be held at Fox & Weeks Funeral Home on Thursday, March 5th at 2:00 PM. Her burial will take place on Friday, March 6th at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville at 9:30AM.

Elaine’s life was marked by quiet service, steady commitment, and deep love for her family and community. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
